Project in 2019

The continuance of enriching the content of “Serbian literary criticism” portal has been carried out within the project “The pioneers of the Serbian literary criticism and selected contemporary critics: contribution of library and information science to discovering critical tradition at the end of the 19th century and presentation of the 20th century authors” which was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Informaton of the Republic of Serbia.

The project goal has been to enhnce the initially presented corpus (J. Skerlić, Isidora Sekulić, Bogdan and Pavle Popović) with two kinds of materials: those that belong to the period before Skerlić (the 19th century) and those originating in the second half of the 20th century. The selected works of critics such as Dositej Obradović, Vuk Karadžić, Đorđe Petranović, Ljubomir Nedić, etc. are presented within the collection “Criticism – 18th and 19th century”.

The collection entitled “Critics (20th century)” is particularly important because it deals with the corpus which is still under copyright. Owing to the kindness and affability of the copyright holders, the selected works of Milorad Pavić and Nikola Milošević are presented, which is a way to mark the birth anniversary of these 20th century authors.

The portal “Serbian literary criticism” is open for new content and its comprehensiveness will mostly depend on copyright issues. The authors interested in depositing their work at this digital library can send an e-mail to kritika@unilib.rs, so that they could get directions for the depositing process.

About the Project

“Serbian Literary Criticism” portal is a result of the project “Library and Information Science and increasing the visibility, accessibility, and impact of literary-critical thought in Serbia” which was supported during 2018 by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia. This is a long term and socially relevant activity aiming to collect a large number of critical writings and to provide easier access to reviews and literary interpretations to a wide group of users. The library and information system or digital repository was established during the project as an infrastructure for depositing and searching texts and other forms of literary criticism. That is how the materials become more accessible and better presented online.

The initial corpus presented in this digital library is dedicated to major Serbian late 19th-century and early 20th-century critics: Jovan Skerlić, Bogdan and Pavle Popović and Isidora Sekulić. Besides this digitized, processed and searchable corpus, the digital library contains another two groups of papers: current literary criticism, which could be deposited by authors through self-archiving, and older critical works that are still under copyright. Increasing the repository content provides a comprehensive, relevant and accessible information resource, useful for a large number of users – from critics to various groups of readers.
